Furniture for Healthcare

Offering dignity and comfort alongside safety

In the realm of healthcare, creating environments that prioritize cleanliness, accessibility, and comfort is paramount. From waiting areas to administrative spaces, the right choice of chairs, tables, and other furniture can significantly impact the overall atmosphere, hygiene, and functionality of a healthcare facility.

Hygiene

Every aspect of a healthcare environment should be scrutinized through the lens of hygiene.

Seating, for instance, can incorporate a range of infection control features. This includes eliminating open creases in the metalwork that may harbor contaminants and incorporating sealed seams on keep moisture, bacteria, and bed bugs at bay. For non-sealed fabrics, an additional moisture barrier can be added to maintain the cleanliness of the inner padding.

Thoughtful design elements, such as open backs and larger spaces between cushions, facilitate easy cleaning and disinfection from any angle. Additionally, spill-guard lips on table tops and overbed tables preventing spills from spreading to the floor or bedding.

Flexibility

The incorporation of mobile and multi-use furniture adds a layer of flexibility to healthcare spaces, enhancing efficiency and adaptability.

Chairs with wheels that only become active when tilted or with a lever pressed makes rearranging seating a breeze. Larger casters on certain chairs facilitate safe patient transfer between rooms or departments without the need for a separate wheelchair.

Sleeper chairs and pull-out beds offer versatility for extended visits, staff lounges or other unexpected stays.

Lightweight, stackable, and stain-resistant folding chairs prove invaluable for large events. With dollies specifically designed to hold these chairs, storage becomes a hassle-free task.

Comfort

Long term care spaces should deliver an experience that feels comfortable while still safeguarding against injury and infection. Natural looking finishes and textiles incorporate color and texture to bring warmth into a space.

Features such as egress arms on chairs, or recliners that can be self-adjusted, and seats at ideal heights enhance the ease of movement. Adjustable dining room tables that include sections that slide up or down allow residents in wheelchairs to join the group, all encouraging independence.

Safety

In mental health areas, where an increased focus on safety is imperative, specific measures can be implemented. Tamperproof fasteners and entirely sealed seat and back cushions help prevent the hiding of contraband. Additional weight in furniture discourages patients from moving the pieces.

As healthcare design continues to evolve, the strategic selection of furniture that prioritizes cleanliness, flexibility, comfort, and safety becomes a fundamental aspect of creating spaces that not only meet the practical needs of patients and healthcare providers but also contribute to a positive and healing environment.
